Another excellent read of Susan's

I especially enjoy Susan Wiggs and wish she would get on the writing track again, as I'm missing her new books. However, recently I have had to find her more obsure books.

Occasionally, there is a diamond in the rough.. Ok this is so this is not too rough .. it is a polished mystery romance and an excellent read with interesting characters and intrigue. Sorry I could not agree with the person that said it had too much mystery?? Hummm... I guess that what makes us all different. I think you would like it if you have enjoyed other somewhat complex novels of Susan's. I was surprised to find it and delighted to enjoy it so much! Good luck finding a copy.

About the Author
"Laurie S. Coltri" was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She received her bachelor's degree in English from the California Institute of Technology, in Pasadena, California, in 1974. Thereafter, she attended law school at the University of Southern California, graduating with a J. D. in 1979.

After several years of general law practice specializing in complex case preparation and legal research and writing, Coltri and her legal advocacy career came to a parting of the ways. In the early 1980s, after moving to Maryland, she began taking courses in the mediation of divorces. After a year of graduate work, she received a graduate concentration in divorce mediation from the University of Maryland at College Park, and began one of the earliest private mediation practices in the state. She mediated virtually the first court-referred child custody case in the Maryland trial courts in the mid-1980s, and directed a telephone-based visitation mediation service for the Prince George's County Department of Child Support Enforcement.

Returning to graduate school, Coltri received her doctorate in Human Development from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1995. Her graduate work focused on the resolution of conflict and the impact of dispute resolution processes on individual development. Since 1996, Dr. Coltri, an Associate Professor, has taught for the University of Maryland, University College, in its highly regarded Legal Studies program. She has received the university's Teaching Recognition Award for her work and has published several articles and book chapters in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution.

Dr. Coltri shares a home in Columbia, Maryland, withher husband, Alan; their daughters, Julia and Robin, born in 1990 and 1994; and an assortment of slightly offbeat animal companions.

There are quite a few mistakes in this text, which initially cause some confusion, but after careful thought you can figure out what the textbook meant to say. I also have issues with the way the text does not summarize the key issues or points of it's chapters or sections. Otherwise, it is a relatively simple subject matter and the author does a good job of laying out the subject.

Classroom requirement

The course is Mediation & Conflict Resolution. This book is most informative.

What I didn't like about it is that the first edition, not in print, has additional information explaining much of what the 2nd edition omits. The rewrite of the book requires reading those portions of the 1st edition not in the 2nd.

Together they are very helpful and useful if becoming a mediator is a consideration.

Aly A. Farag is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and founding Director of the Computer Vision and Image Processing Laboratory, at the University of Louisville. His research interests centre around object modelling with biomedical applications, and his more recent biomedical inventions have led to the development of improved methods for tubular object modelling, virtual colonoscopies and lung nodule detection and classification based on CT scans, real-time monitoring of vital signs from thermal imaging, and image-based reconstruction of the human jaw.

About the Author

Cornel Amariei

Cornel Amariei is a Romanian inventor and entrepreneur in the fields of Robotics and 3D printing. He has been working with the Arduino platform since its early days in 2007. His past experience involves large cargo gamma ray scanning robotics, ATM security systems, and blind assisting devices. In his spare time, he is a performing musician playing multiple instruments―predominately the guitar. He is also a swimmer, water polo player, and photographer. Over the years, he has built hundreds of Arduino projects, ranging from flying Quadcopters to levitating magnets and underwater robots. Currently, he splits his time between doing his undergraduate studies in electric engineering and computer science at Jacobs University in Bremen, Germany, and his start-ups and research and development job.

Really well written book

Starts off with the basics (LED`s, buttons, simple sensors) and then goes into advanced topics, which are very useful, but not hard to follow. Every wondered how to do noise reduction on a measurement, Localization through GPS or using brushless motors? As well practical things like using SD Cards for saving files and interrupts for handling external events.
I already had some experience with Arduino and read a couple of introduction books.
This one is so far the best for me. Providing all the basics the others offer as well and then showing some immensely useful things to build really cool applications.

This is a well prepared cook book for Arduino enthusiasts. Almost every basic and fundamental hardware you can interface with your Arduino is covered here. If you're having problems with your project, this can be a good reference.

Pros :
- Content is well prepared and organized.
- Coverage is satisfactory
- Schemas and diagrams are relevant and easy to understand
- Lots of links to references if you still need more info on some problem

Cons :
- Mostly hardware recipes (no IoT integration or similar projects)
- No Bluetooth/Bluetooth LE coverage (no iBeacons stuff which is a hot topic these days)
- Example code is not on Github, though you can download it from publishers portal
- Lots of links to reference sites within the content. While this is good (for electronic versions) it may be bothersome for people who bought the printed version.

many of the unnecessary electronics details are omitted

The book contains all the information you need to start playing with your Arduino kit. In Chapter 1 it starts with information regarding the Arduino IDE and it contains (among other things) information on how to install it on a Mac OS X, Windows, or Linux machine. Personally I think however that the reader may want to start reading the Appendix first (unless you already have enough electronics background). In the Appendix one can find information regarding schematics, Ohm's Law, Resistor configurations, LEDs, breadboards, etc.

In my opinion the book seems to be written with a focus on the programming rather than electronics side. As such, many of the unnecessary electronics details are omitted, and you get just enough electronics-related information to make your Arduino projects run smoothly. There is however a lot of focus on the software concepts and as such the code is written very clearly and it’s pretty easy to follow.

Some great topics that are included in this book are: button debouncing, button multiplexing, detecting motion, noise reduction (using mean and median filter), measuring distance, 1000 buttons to 1 pin, motor control, shift registers , and very many others. These are great-to-master topics that are useful for many embedded projects not only for Arduinos.

One of the great features of the book is that for each project one can find a schematic as well as a realistic breadboard implementation. Throughout the book one will learn how to use buttons, toggle switches, LEDs, potentiometers, temperature sensors, etc.

Each project starts with the complete code and then it contains a code breakdown, where each part of the code is explained with more details. I wish the internal references to previous sections would also contain page numbers (for a quicker retrieve).

Overall I think this is a pretty good introductory Arduino book which is very easy to follow, and it’s very clear to read. If you are quite advanced in Arduino project then you may want to skip this book, although given the price of it you may want to use it as a quick reference.
