I used this for my macroeconomic class. I must say that the price for the book is low. Since the price of the book is low, the quality is low as well. It is an okay book to use to get the basic ideas of macroeconomy. The author provides interesting information in a few of the chapters. I thought the questions in the end of the chapters were lacking. They didn't go as in depth as one would wish. Also, students are not able to go through the questions themselves since there is no answer provided.
I do not recommend this book. I would recommend the book by Schiller.

I haven't used the macroeconomic book provided by Schiller, but I really liked the one provided on microeconomy. It went more into depth and was easier to learn from.

Bought the book for college, it came promptly & in good condition. Not rating 5 starts because the binding was a little bent and for some reason some of the print on the outside of the back cover was smudged. As for the material, nothing more or less than you would expect from an economics book. However i do like the modern/ historical references found throughout different sections. To clarify, i bought the HARDBACK book, not a paperback like the heading states.

Title of book in picture not accurate

BEWARE - Picture does not represent the title. Unfortunately a total waste of money as my daughter's online class started and she had to buy the book at the bookstore due to turnaround time! $12 lesson learned by my daughter when ordering not to look at the picture when surfing around for the best deal. Based on the picture she thought she had purchased the right book for Microeconomics.

About the Author
Boye Lafayette De Mente has been involved with Japan, China, and Korea since the late 1940s as a member of a U.S. intelligence agency, student, trade journalist, editor, and author working out of Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, and Singapore. He is a graduate of Jochi University in Tokyo and The American Institute for Foreign Trade (now Thunderbird: The School of Global Management). His 70-plus books include Japan's Cultural Code Words, Business Guide to Japan, and Japan Unmasked.

Would Rather Have Borrowed The Book From A Library

There are a number of reasons why I didn't enjoy reading this book. First, many many many Korean words are spelled incorrectly, and it really does detract from the credibility of the author as an authority in this area. At least get the spellings right. Supposedly, going by the book's acknowledgments section, a number of people have had a chance to review the book for editing, yet, many of the most simple words are spelled in shall we say an unorthodox way. Second, the topics could have been covered in a systematic way. Talk about all things legal in one part, all things family in another part, and so on. There is no rhythm or rhyme to how this book organizes the topics, which is annoying. Third, the book is overly general and therefore some of its statements about the "unique character and personality" of Koreans seem unfounded and, quite frankly, bigoted. It is over 450 pages but due to how the topics are organized, many of the written material is needlessly repetitive. Some interesting history is mentioned, but this book could have been much better on a number of fronts.

Informative but repetetive and with atrocious Korean spelling

I found this book fairly informative, ideally to be read one entry at a time every once in a while perhaps. It is way to repetitive and unstructured overall to be consumed in one go. In order to get an idea about some key Korean cultural concepts this is better than reading many of the convoluted academic works. As someone with a Korean studies background, the wrong spelling of even the simplest Korean words and phrases frustrated and disappointed me a lot. As other reviewers have remarked, this clearly undermines the author's (and contributors') credibility unnecessarily. If you can't write simple Korean can you actually read/speak Korean? And if not, how do you expect to understand Korea - and particularly the Korean Mind?

Interesting info, but many mistakes

The cultural information contained in the book is interesting, but the organization was unproductive and the mistakes in the Korean spellings were distracting.

The book is organized by keywords of Korean culture. The keywords are arranged in alphabetical order according to the romanization of the Korean word. If you are approaching the book as a complete beginner to Korean and/or Korean culture this is unhelpful. It is impossible to know where to look. Although my Kindle version does have a section that assigns each entry into certain categories, it would be much easier if the book was just arranged into those categories to begin with. (I don't know if the print version has that section.)

If you speak some Korean and have a specific keyword you would like to look up... well, you're still in trouble. The author never indicates which romanization system (of many varying systems) he is using (and I feel like it was inconsistant anyway), and many of the words were written incorrectly in Korean letters, so the romanization is similarly problematic. (Of course if you recognize this there are limited possible spellings so you would probably get where you wanted to eventually...)

Ultimately, while I think he does make a lot of interesting observations, as with other reviewers I am left wondering just how much I can trust the content given the blatancy of the mistakes. I also think it reads better as a reference book than as a cohesive narrative. (I also agree with one of the other reviewers that a book on the Korean Mind that doesn't address "jeong" is missing one of the more important cultural keywords... or maybe it was there and I just couldn't find it...)

About the Author

Rosalyn H. Shute is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Psychology, Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia, and Federation University, Ballarat, Australia. Her research expertise lies broadly in clinical child psychology and paediatric psychology/child health and wellbeing, and she is an experienced teacher of developmental psychology and clinical child/paediatric psychology.

Phillip T. Slee is a Professor in Human Development in the School of Education at Flinders University, Adelaide, Australia. He is a trained teacher and registered psychologist. His main areas of interest include childhood bullying/aggression, conduct disorders, stress and teacher education, and he has a particular interest in the practical and policy implications of his research.

As a Personal Trainer, Sports Nutrition Consultant and Fitness Competitor, Wendi thought she had her health on lock down. Absolutely love this cookbook!! The recipes provide healthy choices for my family and are so easy to make!! This cookbook has replaced all my old "stand by" cookbooks. A must have for every kitchen!

LOVE! Love! LOVE this book!!

For someone who really wants to change their lifestyle, I really feel like this cookbook is going to be a great start to adjusting my eating habits. This is food and ingredients that I'm familiar with and understand. I love that this cookbook is teaching me about food. It is EASY to comprehend and not overwhelming. The recipes are yummy, easy to follow and 'chef friendly'! I can actually do this and enjoy it! I've never understood the value of food and how to incorporate eating healthy without going broke or feel like I'm missing out. This is not a diet. It's fun and a step in the right direction!! I really wish I would have had this book many years ago. I hope this author continues to publish, educate, and help others. THANK YOU!!!! :)))

Easy Smart Cooking!

With each recipe I have learned a great deal. Wendi does a great job of teaching through recipes with easy to prepare recipes. With each recipe you learn why she uses the ingredients she does and the health benefit.. The recipes have been delicious. I have been able to take what I have learned from these recipes and place them in my everyday cooking. Getting healthy is fun thanks to authors like this! Highly recommend this book to anyone who is starting their health living journey!
