About the Author
Christine H. Renna (Broomfield, CO) has been involved with herding dogs throughout her life, having grown up as a member of the Hartnagle family of Australian Shepherd breeders. Since her teenage years, she has shown dogs competitively in both conformation and herding trials. Steeped in a generations' old heritage of farm and ranch folk, Christine has trained and used herding dogs to work sheep and other livestock on her parents' ranch in Kiowa, CO.

not a how- to book

This book gives a general history of herding dogs and gives information on breeds. There is very little information on what herding dogs should do. It does not explain how to train them. If you are looking for a book about history and breeds it is great. But, if you want to know how to train your dog, keep looking.

This book is a very good place to begin if you are looking to get your first working dog. The history and different breeds of working dogs gives a very good beginning knowledge. The tips on how to pick out the best pup available is also very helpful.
