Clear words, excellent pictures, good explanations, tables, charts...all you need to encourage you to pick up a hammer and start hammering. The new sections include wonderful pictures of historical ironwork (go practice making some of these!) and then the directions that six contemporary smiths are taking.

Must have manuel for Blacksmiths

I gave this 3 stars because this book is not easy to read and I was very disappointed with it. Yes this book has a lot of good information from shop set up to tools and a few drawings however I felt it went from the super basic like iron is hot and will burn you to advanced with out great detailed steps much to quickly. As another stated if this were used in a class situation it would be one of the best books available. I do recommend that any one into blacksmithing read this book but I felt that better detailed instructions and less pictures of pretty work at the end. the pretty pictures were great but if they detailed how those things were made would have been awesome.

A good book for new blacksmiths...and beyond...

This book comes in two parts: One part is good basic information useful to the newcomer to the craft and the other covers work of master blacksmiths.

Regarding the former part, some of the information is a little too basic. It assumes that you know absolutely nothing. But most of the information will be useful to the person learning blacksmithing and much it will be a useful reference to keep coming back to. I know that I will get a lot of use of this book over the coming years.

I'll almost did not buy this book because of the second part and that would have been a mistake. I read the reviews decrying this part of the book as an "art book" and I thought to myself that this part would be just wasted paper for someone that is still relatively low on the learning curve. I was wrong. What I found, upon reading through this section is a wealth of ideas and ways to do things. I will probably never approach the skill level of these artists, but there is plenty here that the masters can teach me -- provided that I make the effort to learn from them.

Really is true what they say about books being a youngster's key to this big old world (including this fantasy world!)

Had begun a little early Christmas shopping at the beginning of November, when I stumbled upon this nice complete set of the 7-book Harry Potter series and began reading the reviews. I almost developed carpal tunnel syndrome from clicking those "helpful" buttons! Wow - so many amazing reviews here on Amazon. I haven't had my old head in the sand these past 15 years, which would just about have to be the case not to have heard of extremely talented author J. K. Rowling and the wonderful fantasy book series she spent a decade - 1997-2007 - creating, the eight movies stemming from the series that were released between 2001-2011 (the final book made for a "2-parter" in 2010 and 2011), young wizard Harry and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger (all students at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy), and his endeavors to defeat the evil wizard Lord Voldemort! As soon as I saw it, I called our daughter-in-law to see if she thought our oldest grandson (who'll be 8 next April) might enjoy this as one of his Christmas gifts - she said she knew he'd seen one of the DVDs (wasn't sure which one) and really enjoyed it, but after perusing probably a couple of hundred reviews, I was completely sold and immediately clicked that "Add to Cart" button (it was the last click I had energy for!)

Since this listing's info section gives you a list of the included books and good general info, and there are so many of the reviews that are even better, beautifully going into some of the particulars, I wondered what else can I possibly add, other than some grandmotherly advice... whether it's Harry Potter or any of the other terrific children's book series that are out there, do what you can to get that first book into their hands! Even if you need one of the DVDs to spark their interest, introducing your youngster to a well-written book series is one of the best decisions you'll ever make! I recall fondly a Christmas when I myself was 8... I wanted Barbie and Ken dolls, and had my fingers crossed for the Barbie Dream House (wasn't even particular about whether it was one of the older cardboard models, or one of the new fandangled plastic ones!) I ended up with Skipper (Barbie was a bit too well-endowed for my father's liking), some pajamas and a copy of Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women". A book? Who wants a book when you could've had a Dream House? In protest, I didn't touch it until my younger sibs and I were punished one day the following summer by being sent to our rooms for the afternoon so my frazzled mother could have some peace. Opened the book, and suffice it to say that it was hard to pull me away from it when the family dinner hour arrived! Must've re-read it three or four times that summer, it was followed by Ms. Alcott's "Little Men" and "Jo's Boys", and by Christmas, the top of my wish list simply read, "BOOKS"! Numerous book series would follow and totally entrance me, and I can't thank my parents enough for giving me an opportunity to discover the joy of reading.

Just so excited about the prospect of handing this series to our grandson this year. He always loved our lunchtime reads of Dr. Seuss, etc. during the five years I spent babysitting him, but he's a big-time second grader now, ready for "meatier" fare. Really looking forward to hearing his periodic updates on the adventures he's reading about!

I truly love the Harry Potter books

I truly love the Harry Potter books! I started reading them right before the 1st movie was released and have watched every movie and read every book several times through. I made the mistake awhile back of letting someone borrow my books and I was never able to get them back. Lesson learned...never let someone borrow a part of your heart.
This semester I have the pleasure of taking a class"Hogwarts School of Leadership" that is learning about leadership by using the Harry Potter books and movies for examples and reference. It was a great excuse to have to spend the money to get the books again and not feel guilty about it when my money could be better spent elsewhere. I mean I have read the books already like 5 times. I had the books downloaded on my Nook, but still a great excuse to have the paper copies so I could more easily flip through the pages as needed.
If you haven't already read these books you are so missing out!
I was even more excited when I pulled these books out of the shipping packaging and they were all US 1st edition prints. The spine on the first book was broken, but I knew that when I purchased these. Beside that all the books are in great condition, and have the sleeves included. They look as if they have hardly been read before.

Honestly, this is one of the most beautiful book collections I've ever purchased. The combination of red and gold in the box is amazing. And it is a very sturdy box. The books are awesomely detailed. I recommend this collection for every Harry Potter fan out there.

"Flute Dream" is a short fairy tale written by Hermann Hesse in March 1914, when he was about to turn thirty seven.

The story, which was titled “Flötentraum” in German, deals with the subconscious dream world and is based on two of Carl Jung's shadow archetypes, the “Impotent Lover” and the “Weakling King”.

In Jungian psychology, the poet is one of the main manifestations of the “Lover” archetype. The “Lover” archetype is usually the first that develops in a man. It is the archetype of emotion, feeling, idealism, sensuality and of opening to the world.

The Lover feels vigorously alive and is totally connected to those around him and to the world at large. He enjoys good food and drink, beautiful art, gorgeous women and uses all his senses, touching, tasting, smelling, hearing, and seeing, to enjoy life’s pleasures.

The Greek god Dionysus, the god of wine, art, passion, and sex is perhaps the best example.

The “Impotent Lover” shadow arises when a man is out of touch with the Lover archetype in its fullness or feels shame when he indulges himself in life’s pleasures.

While the Lover in his fullness sees the world in vivid colors and textures, the Impotent Lover only sees gray. A man dogged by the impotent lover archetype feels depressed, flat, and dead inside. Nothing brings him joy, he has no passion for life.

The “King” archetype is totally centered and functions as an intermediary between man and god, or heaven and earth. He serves as both the geographic and the spiritual center of his realm. All existence radiates from the King archetype.

When a man lives the King archetype in its fullness, he feels confidence, purpose and a sense of well-being that gives him a supreme sense of balance and a centering power within himself.

He’s the rock in crisis and acts rather than reacts. Even when the world around him becomes chaotic, he remains cool, calm, and collected. A man fully engaged with positive King energy is completely present as a man.

The “Weakling King” shadow is passive. Instead of taking control of his life and making decisions in a resolute fashion, a man possessed by the Weakling shadow abdicates his throne to others.

This edition also contains “The Poet”, which depicts a variation on the true “Lover” archetype where the love of poetry was the main lover's desire and the poet manages to suck the marrow out of life without chocking on the bone.

Excellent Hermann Hesse translation

After having read some of Hermann Hesse's more notable works, such as Steppenwolf and Siddhartha, I became endeared to the author's style of writing and his search for spiritual self-discovery. Having run across this translation of "Flute Dream", a short fairy tale written by Hesse, I was intrigued. This is an excellent translation and an interesting story about the subconscious dream world. If you know anything of Jungian psychology, this is a great read and filled with symbolism. While the fairy tale itself may be short, it is long on meaning and has taken me several reads just to scratch the surface. "The Poet" by Hesse is also included as a bonus.
